Warning signs

Alert us if you observe any of these signs in an older or dependent adult.

  • Inconsistent explanations for injuries
  • Changes in thinking, confusion, or disorientation
  • Missing personal belongings, papers, or credit cards
  • Lack of food, water, utilities, medications, or medical care
  • Unusual changes to the person’s financial accounts or other important documents
  • Caregiver has a history of substance abuse, mental illness, criminal behavior, or family violence
  • Caregiver is angry, indifferent, or aggressive toward the person
