The Hub Youth Center, operated by the Department of Family and Children Services and community partners, is a youth-led and organized community center dedicated to supporting current and former foster youths aged 15 to 25. 

It is a safe, welcoming center that cultivates a sense of belonging and empowerment. The Hub is also a one-stop resource center that offers a variety of services provided by your peers and other caring community members, including:

Resources for your daily needs and beyond
  • Computers and printer are available for your job search, homework, college applications and social media.
  • Help yourself to hot food and pantry.
  • Use the onsite fully stocked shower, plus washer and dryer. 
  • Find more supplies at HubMart, housing a collection of interview clothes, backpacks, school supplies and hygiene products.
Health and medical mobile van
  • Get free check-ups, sick care and immunizations.
  • Pregnancy testing and sexually transmitted infection (STI) testing. 
Wellness and crisis response 
  • The Crisis Management Response program at The Hub was developed in response to an influx and ongoing need for mental health wellness and drug use and overdose concerns in our current and former Foster Youth community. 
  • The Crisis Intervention Specialist focuses on preventative safety care, assessing, evaluating and determining risk of harm, appropriate level of care or services and referrals to be made out for collateral services.
Youth Leadership Council (YLC) The Youth Leadership Council was created to foster empowerment, civic engagement, and partnerships among youth who want to be leaders. Youth who attend have an opportunity to serve as the collective voice for decisions related to ILP/Hub youth programs. They are able to gain leadership coaching in areas such as public speaking, motivating groups, and more.
LGBTQ supportThe Hub offers support, advocacy, and information to LGBTQ and questioning youth and young adults up to age 25. Youth can also receive referrals to LGBTQ programs for direct services, peer support, family support, counseling, housing, clothing, and medical care. For information, consultation, and resources for youth and families, contact the LGBTQ social worker at (408) 501-6889.
Jobs and career developmentThe Hub offers a variety of internships, workshops, and trainings to assist youth in securing and maintaining employment. Resources include the Career Development Unit and Work2Future.
Education

 

  • You can obtain a High School Diploma at The Hub with the Opportunity Youth Academy (OYA). 
  • We also offer support and guidance for college applications, financial aid, and scholarships.
Legal advice 
  • Legal Advocates for Children and Youth (LACY) provides free confidential legal advice, consultation, and resources to youth. 
  • LACY can run a credit check for you and assist with any follow-up.
Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) supportYou can get free help in filing your taxes for the current tax year and up to the three previous years.DFCS collaborates with the BWC to provide the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) for current and former foster youth at The Hub.

Events at the HUB

The Hub frequently hosts events to celebrate achievements, foster connections, create a sense of belonging, and a welcoming atmosphere. Events include holiday parties, birthday celebrations, movie nights, game nights, BBQs, outings, workshops and more!

Parent and kid socials

Explore a variety of parent education topics, learn about community resources, and socialize with other young parents. Parent and Kid Socials are offered through a partnership with the BWC and Legal Advocates for Children and Youth (LACY).
