Report elder and dependent adult abuse | Mandated reporters
Most people who work with older or dependent adults are mandated reporters under state law. To determine if you may be a mandated reporter, please review the Welfare and Institution Code.

If you are a mandated reporter, you are required by law to report any suspicion of abuse as defined in Section 15610.23. involving dependent adults between the ages of 18 and 64, and elder adult abuse.
You are required by law to report suspicious activity involving the financial accounts of elderly adults aged 65 or older.
Failure to report elder and dependent adult abuse by mandated reporters is a misdemeanor, punishable by either imprisonment, a fine or both.
Steps to file your report
Call APS.
You must report elder and dependent adult abuse by telephone to our office or local law enforcement immediately or as soon as practically possible. See phone numbers at the top of this page.- Complete the Report of Suspected Dependent Adult/Elder Abuse form.
